Just got my gas & electric bills which (like many other people) I have been dreading. We have been really trying hard to switch things off that are not being used and it seems to have paid off. Whilst this quarter's bills are still high, they are quite a lot less than this time last year. I know energy prices have fallen a bit, but I think economising around the house has made the difference significant.
I also insulated the loft last year, which really seems to have helped. The upstairs rooms are so much warmer now, so the heating can be turned down.
So now we have loft and cavity wall insulation, all windows and doors are double glazed, and we are swiching off everything that is not being used. I don't think I can reduce the bills anymore. However, I am experimenting with a new radiator and it seems a lot more efficient than the old one. Hmmmmm..I might replace some more...
Cheers, Steve.
Hi Steve
If you're replacing your rads, it's always worth having TRVs (Thermostatic radiator valves) put on. You can alter the temperature to suit in each room with those.
