I know Eoin does the odd 'unatural' shift, but the new role I'm doing at work means I have a lot more 1am finishes. I've got to do today 3pm - 1am, tomorrow 5-1am and Sunday 5-1am!! .......Not that I'm one to moan or anything......but I will anyway!

I hear ya.. with shifts like that you spend most of your subsequent days off recovering and just generally lethargic and then just as you start feeling yourself again (no jokes please) its back for another week and the same old vicious circle all over again , was for me anyway. I negociated myself off that shift but lost out on thousands in shift pay but the last couple of months I have had a much better shift and quality of life. Four 11 hour days finishing about 10 and with 3 days off at the weekend. However thats all gonna come to and end as of next month and there are all sorts of rumours going around from more night shifts to working right through the weekend, I don't want to go back to any of that but its how our business works and there is fuck all i can do so it might be time for a change cause I am not spending my life a fuckin zombie (or even more of one) for no amount of shift pay. aghhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhh etc...

totally , on average I needed two hours sometimes longer to unwind. It was not unknown for a few cold ones to be knocked back either which feels very weird when the sun is coming up and the birds chirping away outside. It actually came a real bad habit with one guy who in all fairness took it too the extreme and when the wife brought the kids down for their breakfast he'd be gee eyed in the kitchin with a load of tins round him. She kicked em out for 2 whole weeks but he got his act together in the end. Nights can do weird things to a man . Image

i remember it well and i can sympathise. the nearest thing to describe it is jet lag. you can't be arsed doing anything apart from going back to bed and then it's a viscious circle. swimming helped me. once i hit that cold water.................

i know a thing or two about working mad hours. hotel world and all that.and when you think you got past that, you still have to cover for the odd holiday and you still get the 4 am call to sort things out (plumbery, mad guests, fire alarm you name it). which is alright when you are a spring chicken but it does takes its toll past the big30.

and working doubles or late-early is not doing any good for yourself or your performance either.

carreer change anyone?
