Thanks exapno. Wylie's 'lament' is great because it's so upbeat, celebratory. As Wylie himself modestly puts it, he is a part-time rock star, full-time legend. :*:

There's a great Thatcher quote on his MySpace from Ricky Tomlinson...

Ricky 'My Arse' Tomlinson wrote:
Mrs Thatcher, where you're going...you won't have to worry about coal because it will be bloody roasting. And I hope the miners have a bloody day out when it happens because I'll be with them having a pint."

I agree, Simon, it was indeed a foolish post ... where did it go?
In fact, I rarely moan much on here, but I'm getting really cheesed off with political posts from certain quarters. Can't be doing with forums being treated like Speakers' Corner at Hyde Park, so off to look at musically related threads :D

Every time I see this thread bumped, I wonder if it's because she actually did pass on and I missed the news.

Sorry, no news yet. I imagine that when she finally goes this thread will be on fire.

I'm just bumping the thread to add my thoughts.

There is no way I would ever like to see that woman get a state funeral, not ever. She is totally undeserving of that.

Previous posters have put forwards great arguments as to why she shouldn't get one. I despise the woman in particular for what she did to the steel and coal industries and the way the miners were treated in the 80's.

I hate the way she tried to eradicate the Trade Unions and strikes (lets face it there were some questionable tactics used by the Police and allowed by the Government, during the miners strike) and she gave us the Poll Tax. Oh and of course told us that society didn't exist anymore.

I also have her to thank for the hassle I got from ignorant people in the 80's, on account of me having a father who comes from Eastern Europe. Her backing of Regan calling the Soviet Union an "Evil Empire", was a real joy for me considering I grew up in an area densely populated by the USAF and their families.

I know that the 1994 Criminal Justice and Social & Public Order Act which helped kill off raves came in after her leadership ended, but weren't the seeds for that sown under her reign along with the media whipping up its moral panic?

Harsh as it may be, I for one will be glad when she shuffles off this mortal coil. I will go out on the piss and raise a glass to my ancestors, who were miners.

My Dad was a miner [salt rather than coal] - he said Thatcher / Stalin makes no difference he'd still be working in a salt mine...

And yes on the day of Thatchers funeral I think a mass 'phone in for a sickie' and a long visit to the pub would be in order...

I just can't stand the woman and all she stood for.

Definitely!
I reckon there will be a mass exodus of people to the pub when that day comes.

and piss on the corpse? yes.

she ripped the heart out of the community i lived in. my dad was a coal miner my stepdad a steel worker

"In the 1980s Rotherham still had around 10,000 working in steel and the same in the pits, but Margaret Thatcher put paid to all that - though not without a fight.

Only one colliery survived the Tory pit closures of the 1990s. Mining villages have been turned into wastelands of social deprivation.

Rotherham was the centre of militancy during the steel strike nearly 30 years ago and the miners' strike 25 years ago".......

an now its full of chavs and teenage mums.

If this eminently sensible suggestion is adopted, can you give her corpse a few kicks for me as you pass by?

She'd be happy right now if she lived where I do; our municipal workers, of whom my step-dad is one, have been on strike for over a month because the city administration wants to do away with post-retirement benefits for new hires, among other things. That there are so many stupid fuckers in this city who support that, yet don't grasp or care that the new hires are going to be by definition their children and grandchildren, I lay right at the feet of Thatcher and other pools of puke who popularized the idea that your tax dollars now are more important by far than the well-being of your descendants.
