Not sure I know it but is this the right song?

"Roving Gambler"

as recorded by the Country Gentlemen

transcribed by Brad Kale

*capo 2nd

(G)

I am a rovin' gambler, I've gambled all around

(C) (G) (C) (G)

ever I meet with a deck of cards, I lay my money down.

(D) (G)

Lay my money down, lay my money down,

I had not been in 'Frisco, many more weeks than three

when I met up with a pretty little girl, she fell in love with me

fell in love with me, fell in love with me.

She took me to her parlor, she cooled me with a fan

whispered low in her mothers ear,I love this gamblin' man

Love this gamblin' man, love this gamblin' man.

Oh daughter oh dear daughter, how can you treat me so

leave your dear 'ol mother, and with the gambler go.

With the gambler go, with the gambler go.

Oh mother oh dear mother, I'll tell you if I can

if you ever see me coming back, I'll be with the gamblin' man

with the gamblin' man, with the gamblin' man.

I left her in frisco and wound up in Maine

there I met with a gamblin' man, we got in a poker game

got in a poker game, got in a poker game.

He put his money in the pot and he dealt the cards around

saw him deal from the bottom of the deck, so I shot the gambler down

shot the gambler down, shot the gambler down.

Now I'm down in prison, got a number for my name

the warden said as he locked the door, you've gambled your last game

gambled your last game, gambled your last game.

I know lady Solitude is on here already but I think it may be incorrect.
(I may be wrong but I don't hear an F#minor in there)

I hear a D - A
D - G

Then a Eminor A D in the chorus.

However, when watching Richard live I think he may play it with a capo on 2 using a C shape.

Just wondering what the other chords are using the Capo.

Anyone here got it on the money???

This is the version I play (or try to).

http://chordie.com/chord.pere/www.guita ... 76596.html

If you capo at 2nd fret the chords are:

D changes to C,
Em changes to Dm,
G changes to F
A changes to G.

Both options don't throw up any horrible chords.

I'm afraid I have dreadful trouble following those - unless someone demonstrates it first

Alan.....I have to have a recording of the song to get some semblance of the rhythm ... .that is where I am struggling a bit.......I know I am playing the tune to the chords rather than the background ....my teacher tells me off for doing all down strokes....that's cos I think my up strokes sound crap....*......I went on www.ultimate-guitar.com last night and printed out a few Elvis songs.......but have to say....my fave warm up jam type fave is belting out American Pie....... :*:

And then using some of the chords from here to mellow out to Richard songs......slow ones really as I can strum or finger pick rather than having to keep to the rhythm...... :?

Oh well...I enjoy it so much it really doesn't matter...only me listening!

Was trying to get the chords to Born Under A Bad Sign...got the first bit ok but then got stuck...any one help with this one?

Thanks for that Tregolwyn

What's the secret for transposing chords when using the capo. I never got the hang of that.

Also I watched Richard and his Mum doing the Roving Gambler on YouTube and I don't think it's a G and C with the capo on.

Anyone suss this one?

basically as you move up the fret board with the capo everything goes up by what i call half usually... so if you have A without a capo... if you capo it on the first fret, it becomes Bb and then B on the second and so on...

There are websites that will do the transposing for you... and if youre looking at Ultimate Guitar and some other chord sites there is an option to transpose the chords near the top of the page... basically when it says go up by 2 semitones or whatever, it means, capo on the 2nd fret

Hope that helps and isnt too confusing
