So I finally bought (one of) my dream guitar(s)...
It's a 1979 3-pick up LP Custom that someone has disconnected the middle p'up on so that only the traditional combinations are available.
I'm keen to reinstate it in a way that will leave the proper combinations possible but will allow the middle one to be brought in as needed - probably via a push-pull pot. I've done some Googling but can't seem to get a clear answer how best to do this. Or what options might exist re controlling volume and tone. btw I really do not want to be adding any new switches or knobs to the guitar, other than something completely hidden such as the pot mentioned above.
Also, the paintwork is pretty worn and I'd really like to get at least the top refinished. I've spoken to a couple of local-ish people but they were 1) not keen to take on the work and 2) a bit edgy about suggesting what it might cost... Anyone any ideas of a ballpark figure for a top refinish? btw there's almost no paint left on the neck but it's lovely like that - reminds me of the neck on my LP Special.
Any thoughts or pointers would be much appreciated.
Liking the new forum format - very slick...
